Aer Rianta is a pioneer in travel retail, having opened the world’s first duty free shop at Shannon airport in 1947. Today they operate travel retail stores in 14 airports around the world and have started to develop e-commerce sites to enable passengers to shop in advance of travel. The website build for their flagship store in Dublin had just completed at the end of 2019 when the pandemic hit, travel stopped and cost savings had to be found wherever possible.
With hundreds of thousands of skus to upload, they searched for a supplier that could handle the workload, initially speaking to a number of data centres in India. A chance discussion with an industry colleague at Lifestyle Sports led to an introduction to Content Llama and a 3-month trial to get the Montreal website live. The results opened their eyes to exciting possibilities.
